From the collaboration between the be-WISE and the Laboratório da Paisagememerged the 360.come project. This project received the maximum score, raising €33,973.02 from the Portuguese Ministry of the Environment and Climate Action, with the remaining amount financed by the Laboratório da Paisagem. 360.come is a multidisciplinary project with a strong component of Environmental Education focusing on sustainable food, sustainable land use and the circular economy.
In this context, WISE developed two educational activities with a large experimental component that were implemented in 15 schools in the Municipality of Guimarães. Both activities focused on raising awareness of the importance of soil in food production and its preservation.
The first activity was focused on soil biodiversity, here the students evaluated several soils of different origins including the soil of the school garden itself. In this assessment, students identify all the biota present in the samples from micro to macro-organisms. In the second experimental activity, the students evaluated various abiotic soil parameters such as color, texture, and pH.
In addition to Environmental Education and awareness and WISE researchers seek to provide students with direct contact with scientists and the world of research, awakening in them a critical and inquisitive spirit.
